Ambuluwawa is basically a bio diversity complex which includes thefirst multi-religious centre in Sri Lanka. It consists of religious sites ofall four main religions followed in Sri Lanka namely, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islamand Christianity. The Ambuluwawa Mountain hosts a tower like structure whichresembles a spiralling cone and is a wonder to watch as well as it gives aspectacular view of the surrounding areas.

The Ambuluwawa Tower is approximately 48 meters in height. Itstands approximately 600 metersfrom the level of the Gampola town and approximately 3560 meters abovethe sea level.

Religious importance of Ambuluwawa

Ambuluwawa is special in the sensethat it is the first multi-religious centre in Sri Lanka. It hosts a Buddhisttemple, Hindu kovil, mosque and a church. The Buddhist temple or ‘stupa' iswhat forms the corn like structure of the Amubluwawa Tower which has thespiralling staircase that leads to the top. A Bo tree is also situated in thearea and is known to have been grown froma sapling of the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi of Anuradhapura. The ascent ofthis staircase to the top of the tower gives an amazing view of the Gampolatown below and the mountains and valleys surrounding the area.

Things to note when visiting Ambuluwawa

Ambuluwawa consists of religious sitesso visitors are requested to be appropriately dressed during their visits tothis sacred area. Ascending the tower is not recommended for the faint heartedas the spiralling staircase and views below can be a setback for kids, theelderly and in general, for those who fear extreme heights. However, for thosewho are ready to brave this journey, it would indeed be a memorable one inevery way.
